Shortly before taking to the pitch Mattia Giani had addressed a few words to the coach of Castelfiorentino, the team for which he played. Here's what he told him
He was ready to take the field and give everything for his team and his teammates, as he always had. Fate, however, had other plans in store for him, which caused deep mourning in the world of football and in those who loved him. The memory of Mattia Giani it also goes through the last words said before the match to the Coach of Castelfiorentino. Coach who is deeply saddened by this serious loss.
The young footballer was busy with the Castelfiorentino United in Campi Bisenzio against Asd Lanciotto Campi. Suddenly he collapsed to the ground and never recovered. Mattia's father denounces the fact that there was no doctor on the sidelines.
The regulation is clear: the host club in championships of excellence must guarantee the presence of an ambulance or a doctor to intervene if necessary. Lanciotto claims that the doctor was there, with two nurses. But the doctor's name, however, does not appear in the list given to referee Niccolò Rinaldi before the match. When, however, he should be clearly indicated.
The Prosecutor's Office has also opened a case on death of the young 26 year oldboth to understand what happened to him on the pitch and to verify that the help was really where it was supposed to be and where it is foreseen by regulation.
Among other things, the penalty for anyone who violates this rule is very low: a fine of 70 euros, which increases to 100 euros in the event of a repeat offense. The question of presence of doctor and ambulances on the sidelines, however, it is fundamental, as is that of the defibrillator and personnel trained in its use.
Mattia Giani, the last words before the match
What did the young footballer say to the Castelfiorentino United coach? Nico Scardigli is moved reporting his last words: “Mister, don't worry, I'll score a goal and we'll win the match“. Before the match, Mattia had, as always, spoken to the Coach about him, promising to give everything for the team.
The coach remembers smiling at him and saying didn't notice anything strange. Mattia Giani, before flying to heaven, also kept his promise, scoring a goal. “But then after this shot on goal it was absurd: it's as if he had a muscle problem. I looked at it more closely and it was clear that it was something different.” Mattia Giani later fell ill which, unfortunately, proved fatal.
