Bimmy NES Emulator is the new game emulator for the Nintendo Entertainment System consoles that is available in the App Store. It is developed by Tom Salvo.
On the App Store, Bimmy is described as an app for trying out and playing public domain/homebrew titles made for the NES.
Although, the application allows loading ROMs of any NES title available for download online, such as Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong.
The NES console was introduced in 1985, so some of these video games are almost 40 years old. Remember that “Downloading pirated copies of Nintendo games is illegal”; so better enjoy the titles that are legally available for download.
“There are no ads or tracking of any kind. It works with quite a few ROMs, although not all mappers are compatible. Enjoy it!“says Tom Salvo.
The release of Bimmy comes after Apple removed the Game Boy iGBA emulator from the App Store for copying another emulator known as GBA4iOS, which was distributed outside of the App Store.
By the way, Apple commented that it had approved iGBA before learning that the app was a copy, which suggests that emulators of old Nintendo consoles are allowed in the App Store, and Bimmy seems to be the first evidence of this.
Recall that Apple updated its app review guidelines to allow retro game console emulators earlier this month.
The company that owns the iPhone and iPad comments that emulator developers are “responsible for all software of this type” offered in the application; including compliance with “all applicable laws.”
