The former deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Bryansk, Yuri Sokolov, was accused of extortion and taking a bribe, he and his property worth 50 million rubles were arrested. A source from Izvestia reported this on April 15.
“The seized property actually belonged to Sokolov, but ownership was registered to third parties. At the same time, Sokolov’s wife works as an astrologer,” the publication’s interlocutor noted.
According to the source, the former law enforcement officer actually owns a house in Bryansk worth more than 45 million rubles, as well as Lexus and Toyota cars with “nice license plates” worth about 7.5 million rubles.
So, Sokolov extorted a bribe of 14 million rubles and received $50 thousand through an intermediary. It is specified that in 2016 and 2018 Sokolov received the ranks of lieutenant colonel and colonel ahead of schedule. Moreover, in 2018-2019 he received severe official reprimands five times. In 2021, the arrestee was also punished five times for violations during his service.
Earlier, on March 26, the FSB of Russia, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, exposed an organized criminal group, which included senior officials of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and entrepreneurs of the Stavropol Territory. It was reported that the attackers contributed to the early termination of the license of a water production company in Mineralnye Vody in order to carry out a “raider takeover” of production facilities to obtain excess profits.
Prior to this, on March 19, it was reported that FSB officers detained one of the leaders of the regional state government agency Chelyabinskavtodor. This company is engaged in control and technical supervision of road construction in the Chelyabinsk region. According to preliminary data, the detention is related to corruption.
