Two buildings owned by Metsähallitus were burned down in March 2017.
Central Criminal Police (krp) asks for hints on Utsjoki from the arsons that occurred in 2017.
The Nature Hut in the center of Utsjoki burned to the ground in the early hours of March 8, 2017. About a week later, on March 16, the Metsähallitus warehouse burned down on the southern edge of the Utsjoki church village. Both of the buildings burned beyond repair.
The police said at the time that the fires were deliberately set using flammable liquids. The fires in the buildings caused considerable financial damage to Metsähallitus.
Krp says that he is now going through the material gathered in the investigation again and that he will find out the course of events on the days of the fire. According to KRP, before setting the fires, the person suspected of arson had delivered a letter to the editors of the local newspaper in which he explained the motive for his actions.
For investigative reasons, the police will not provide more detailed information about the contents of the letter. KRP crime district commissioner Teemu Mäntyniemi nor does it take a position on whether it has been possible to infer something about the author from the contents of the letter.
“The information about the letter delivered to the local newspaper has been known to the police almost from the beginning of the investigation,” Mäntyniemi told STT.
So far, the suspect is completely unknown to the police.
Krp wants people who know about the matter to contact the police. The information can be sent by email to [email protected] or by calling 041 7472 707.
