Sensational ending
Exactly as had happened twenty-four hours earlier with the first ever edition of the Misano E-Prix, the second race on the circuit named after Marco Simoncelli also provided a spectacle and a sensational outcome: more than for the victory by Pascal Wehrleinit was the Oliver Rowland retired on the last lapwhen the British was located leading the race. A technical problem thus deprived the Japanese team of the possibility of achieving a double in Italy after yesterday's victory, which was only made official in the evening following the disqualification of Antonio Felix da Costa. The reigning world champion is also on the podium Jake Dennisas well as Nick Cassidywho took 3rd place from Nico Muller to photo finish.
More overtaking and contacts
In the opening moments of the race, Jake Hughes managed to maintain the championship lead for the first five laps after the pole position achieved this morning, all despite a succession of overtaking and counter-overtaking as in yesterday's E-Prix. At first, however, there were no contacts that compromised the drivers' races, at least until the seventh round: after a show of attacks mixed with caution, the first to raise the white flag due to damage to his car was Robin Frijns, who ended up in the gravel after being 'sandwiched' between two single-seaters. The episode prompted the entry of the Safety Car, then returned to the pits on lap 9. From that moment, however, other contacts were repeated: above all, that of Da Costa, who ended his unlucky weekend at the bottom of the standings after damaging his front wing after hitting Sam Bird. In the last ten laps, with the group still compact, the exceptions were Pascal Wehrlein and Oliver Rowland, who stretched out over their pursuers to give life to the fight for victory. When everything seemed to be smiling for the Englishman, very close to his second consecutive success, the Nissan of the former world leader has begun to slow down right on the last lap due to technical problems, giving first place to Wehrlein, with the German thus becoming the first to reach the top step of the podium more than once this season.
Jake Dennis also completed a good comeback, 2nd at the finish line, while under the checkered flag Nick Cassidy managed to bring his Jaguar ahead of the ABT Cupra of Nico Muller, literally one step away from the podium. The performance of the Maseratiwith Gunther who is unable to repeat himself after yesterday's top-3 finish 9th right in front of his teammate Jehan Daruvalawho consoled himself with his first point in Formula E.
We return to a citizen
From the absolute novelty of the permanent circuit of Misano Adriatico, Formula E will move in two weeks to a city and historic track like that of Principality of Monaco. The race weekend, the eighth of the calendar and which will complete the first half of the 2023/2024 championship, is scheduled Saturday 27 April.
