Denmark's customs and tax authorities want around 1.7 billion euros back from those who profited from the fraud. There will be arguments in London from Monday. But a protagonist will not appear in court.
MLondon has some experience with major cases that break new legal ground. This applies not only to arbitration proceedings that large international corporations or oligarchs use to settle their disputes, but also to the state jurisdiction at the High Court. Its “Commercial Courts”, i.e. chambers that specialize in commercial disputes, are primarily called upon when complex matters are involved Economic processes involving foreign parties. According to our own information, this is the case in 75 percent of all cases.
And so it is not surprising that among the “top cases of the year” chosen in advance by the British business press, there are regularly cases from the Commercial Courts – among which the claim for damages brought by the Danish customs and tax authority Skatteforvaltningen (“Skat”) stands out for several reasons.
