The water rationing ordered by the Bogota City Hall Given the low levels of the reservoirs that supply the city, due to the drought aggravated by the El Niño phenomenon, it began this Thursday in numerous neighborhoods in the center and north of the capital and this Saturday it will be its third sectorized day.
The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galanreferred to the situation as “critical” and asked citizens to save water.
In the midst of this panorama, the Mayor's Office also began a campaign to bring the message to the people of Bogotá.
That is why the cyclist Egan Bernalone of the glories of Colombian sports, participated in a video in which he invited the city's inhabitants to take up the fight to save water.
“Cycling teaches us that teamwork is essential and just as in cycling we face different obstacles, at this moment the water shortage in Bogotá is one of them. However, if we save water, we work as a team, with creative ideas and each one does their bit, together we can overcome anything,” Egan said in a video message broadcast on the mayor's X account.
“It is our duty to have a sense of belonging to the capital and to all save water as much as possible.”
Mayor's message
In addition, the mayor of the capital insists on 3 changes that are easy to implement by all citizens:
-Showers of 3, maximum 5 minutes.
-Let's not accumulate more water than is necessary for the basics.
-This is not the time to water golf courses, wash facades, cars or windows.
Due to the lack of rain, aggravated by the El Niño phenomenon, the reservoirs of the Chingaza system, Bogotá's main water supplier, are at critical levels.
The other two systems that supply the capital, the North Aggregate and the South Aggregate, are a little better, with levels of 54.23 and 44.34% of their capacity, respectively, but they account for only 30% of the water. that consumes the city, of almost eight million inhabitants.
