The deaths of six people from stabbings have been confirmed during an attack at a shopping mall in Sydney, Australia, this Saturday (13). The attacks were carried out by a boy, who was shot dead by the police. The total number of injured is not yet known, but among them is a nine-month-old baby.
According to information from the EFE Agency, the attack took place at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center, at around 3:10 pm local time (2:10 am Brasília time). The attacker – still unidentified – was shot dead by a police officer after confronting her with a knife in his hand. The agent even tried to revive him while waiting for the medical team to arrive, but was unsuccessful.
Australian police see no evidence that the murders were motivated by a terrorist act, as there is no evidence that the attacker acted for ideological or religious reasons.
“The investigation will be ongoing for many days, but there are elements that do not indicate this at this time,” commented Karen Webb, Commissioner of the New South Wales Police, during a press conference.
Among the confirmed deaths, there are five women and one man, in addition to the attacker himself. In addition to them, at least eight injured people are hospitalized in hospitals in the region. The affected baby needed emergency surgery.
