The municipality of Archena will burn 'its problems' and bad thoughts every year during its patron saint festivities. He will do so in Plaza 1 de Mayo using the figure of the demon who, according to legend, appeared to a shepherd on the Ope hill, the small mound that crowns the city of Archenera to the west.
The unique virtual mascot, which illustrates the poster for the Corpus Christi and Virgen de la Salud festivities that will take place from May 11 to June 23, was presented by the mayor of Archena, Patricia Fernández, accompanied by the Councilor for Celebrations , Damián Pagán, in an event that took place this Friday.
The mayor highlighted this fact as the most important novelty of these festivities, since in her opinion “it adds a new chapter and added value to the festive history.” Under the name 'Loqui', the Archena festivities incorporate “a novel and friendly element that will be a new incentive and attraction in these celebrations,” said Fernández, who added that Loqui “is not only a simple festive figure, but also “It is a symbol of improvement and hope that will be displayed in Plaza 1 de Mayo from next May 9.” The mayor encouraged people to visit it and “deposit, there, all the sadness and worries and wait to see how they fade away in a large bonfire where they will burn on June 2.”
Fernández explained that the idea arose from the deep-rooted Archenera legend that tells that a demon appeared on Mount Ope, and 'Loqui' personifies “that demon; all the bad moments that we have experienced throughout the year, the situations that have caused us pain or anguish or the memories that we would prefer to leave behind” and “far from evoking suffering, Loqui comes to show us that pain and sorrow are temporary.” ».
Likewise, he announced that “at the end of our festivities, on June 2, 'Loqui' will burn along with all those evils in a symbolic act to be reborn from the ashes each year when our festivities arrive and begin again to” put aside problems”.
The mayor explained that each year 'Loqui' will take a new form, adapting to a current theme. This year has focused on diversity and inclusion. In the words of Patricia Fernández “we firmly believe that everyone, regardless of our differences, should enjoy our holidays safely, creating a welcoming and respectful environment where all people feel welcome and valued.”
For the mayor, “diversity and inclusion are not just words, they are fundamental values that enrich our lives, strengthen our society and become one of the fundamental pillars on which to build our patron saint festivities.”
At this point, he recalled that the patron saint festivities of Archena were declared of regional tourist interest in 2023, which is why he showed his pride in such recognition and encouraged people to enjoy them “with friends and family.” Likewise, he thanked the artist who conceived 'Loqui', the archenero Francisco Torrano for representing our history “so accurately” and all the groups, associations and companies involved in the organization for their work and dedication “without you it would be impossible” and insisted in that “they are more than a simple celebration, they are moments of connection, tradition and shared joy that remind us that we are a great city.”
