Sprint returns to Shanghai
After an absence of five years F1 returns to China on the Shanghai circuitwhich hosted the last edition of the GP in 2019. At the time, Max Verstappen had only five victories under his belt in F1 and Charles Leclerc had yet to break the deadlock, having made his debut with Ferrari after his year of apprenticeship with Alfa Romeo in 2018.
For the first time in 2024 the weekend will feature the Sprint format, which has been revised compared to 2023. After the free practice session, the Sprint Qualifying will take place, then the Sprint immediately on Saturday and then the GP Qualifying on Sunday. Instead of closing immediately after the free practice session, Parc Fermé will remain open until before Qualifying as happens on normal race weekends. The challenge between Red Bull and Ferrari will therefore continue on an 'unknown' circuit for the generation of ground effect cars. Furthermore, the Shanghai runway has been resurfaced. All unknowns that will have to be resolved little by little by the teams from session to session even if on Saturday morning with the Sprint there will already be points up for grabs for the rankings.
The event will be broadcast live in full on Sky Sports F1on TV8 the Sprint Qualifying will be broadcast live on Friday morning and the Sprint on Saturday at dawn (with a repeat at 10.30 before the Qualifying is postponed at 12.00, the Grand Prix will also be broadcast on Sunday at 14.00). .
