Beatrice Venezi: “They attack me on competence because I'm right-wing”
According to Beatrice Venezi, being a conversationalist is “unforgivable”, which is why she is often criticized and attacked on her competence.
In an interview with Corriere della Serathe conductor explains that towards her “the game is always the same: destroy your enemy by attacking him on his technical competence, trying to dismantle a preparation built up over decades – I have been studying since I was 6 years old and have been working as a conductor for 12 years orchestra”.
Beatrice Venezi, therefore, adds that it is the “Mia Martini mechanism: by dint of saying that it was bad luck, we know the tragic end it ended up with. But I think that if there is this fury towards me, ultimately they fear me.”
The conductor says she feels out of the pack, like her programme: “There is certainly something autobiographical. I express positions that do not conform to the mainstream, starting from my world, that of classical music. What we now keep under a glass case was once comparable to today's pop. Donizetti's new opera was expected just as Elodie's new piece is expected today.”
Subsequently, she states that they accuse her “of not being sufficiently feminist because I want to be called director or master, in the masculine form. Laura Boldrini said I had 'a serious problem that demonstrates low self-esteem'. Feminism should be a concrete, non-ideological issue in support of women's demands. Instead it is trivially linked to lexical disputes.”
On his relationship with Giorgia Meloni he states: “We have known each other for a long time, well before he became a prominent figure in politics. He is a person for whom I have respect, first and foremost human. But — I repeat — we have never had a political relationship.”
On the consultancy for the Minister of Culture Sangiuliano, however, Beatrice Venezi points out: “I don't do politics, I don't have a party card. My role at the ministry is to raise political awareness of certain problems in a sector that has been left in a sort of self-management for decades. I think I can give my contribution to a system that in some cases is crooked and perverse: I am an idealist and collective interest has prevailed over personal interest.”
