Conmebol announced that Bolivia will host the single-match final of the Copa Sudamericana in 2025, as reported by the president of the entity, Alejandro Dominguez. The match will be at the Ramón Aguilera Costa stadium, located in the eastern region of Santa Cruz.
The sports director of Santa Cruz, Carlos Dabdoubreported in a press conference that the Bolivian city will host this match, and that they are already planning improvements to the sports venue's facilities to meet the requirements demanded by Conmebol.
Dabdoub assured that the Ramón Aguilera Costas stadium is “the best in Bolivia.” He also recognized the work of the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) that promoted the candidacy of the Santa Cruz venue, which has the capacity to receive 35,000 fans.
“This final will benefit us not only in sports, it will also benefit us in tourism due to the number of attendees,” he stated.
The sports director mentioned that the integrated lighting system, the giant screen, the sound, the dressing rooms and the press room of the stadium will be renewed. “We want to be an international sports epicenter,” he said.
The president of Conmebol also announced that the final of the 2024 edition of the South American tournament will be held in the city of Asunción in Paraguay. The Paraguayan capital was already the scene of the Sudamericana final in 2019, in which Independiente del Valle from Ecuador and Colón from Argentina faced off.
Likewise, Bolivia hosted the Copa Sudamericana final in 2004, when the format was reciprocal visit matches in the cities of the finalist teams. In that edition, the Argentine Boca Juniors visited the city of La Paz to play against Bolívar, the first leg was won by the Bolivians by a goal at the Hernando Siles stadium. However, the Xeneize team was proclaimed champion of the tournament at home based on the overall score.
