The birth rate in Ukraine has reached its lowest level in the last 300 years. The Ukrainian publication Texts wrote about this on Wednesday, April 10, whose journalists conducted their own research.
“In 2023, the fewest children were born in the last 300 years,” the material says.
It is noted that the study also took as a basis information from the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy on the country’s demographic development strategy.
According to the authors of the material, 187 thousand children were born in Ukraine in 2023, which was the smallest number in the history of the study.
On March 29, the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua reported that the country's population could decline to 25 million people by 2051. It is noted that the average life expectancy of men in the country from 2020 to 2023 decreased from 66.4 to 57.3 years, and for women – from 76.2 to 70.9 years. More than 6 million women and children have also migrated, and the birth rate has dropped by 45% since 2021.
In mid-September 2023, the former chief analyst of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, professor at Doshisha University Masaru Sato, announced a catastrophic decline in the population of Ukraine. In 1991, 55 million people officially lived on its territory, and in 2001 this figure fell to 47 million, the expert noted.
