There is a new attack via social media from Hungary on Ilaria Salis and her family. Returning to the case in a post published on X this morning is Zoltan Kovacs, spokesperson for Viktor Orban's government. A message that is intended to be a defense of “the reputation and integrity” of the Hungarian judiciary, but it turns out to be yet another institutional intervention in the trial involving the 39-year-old Italian activist, who has been in prison in Budapest for 14 months on charges of having attacked three far-right militants and of being part of a criminal association.
«Ilaria Salis is not a heroine – writes Kovacs – she and her “companions” came to Hungary and committed barbaric and premeditated attacks against Hungarian citizens: these are the facts. Everything else is a mere political invention and we will defend the reputation and integrity of our judiciary, no matter how loudly the left cries wolf.”
Not only that: the Hungarian government spokesperson also adds a video in which he directly attacks Roberto Salis, Ilaria's father: «In the last few months and in the last few weeks Ilaria Salis' father – says Kovacs – has spoken to all the European press Western, as well as with some US media, was even invited to the European Parliament and repeatedly expressed serious unfounded accusations that cannot be left unanswered. We should add that he himself transformed his daughter's case into a political issue and now seems surprised that political responses are arriving to these totally unfounded accusations.”
Hungary, attack on Ilaria Salis: “She is not a heroine”
As a father, «he would perhaps do well to reflect on how his daughter found herself in such an accident once again, because this case is not unprecedented», adds Kovacs, referring to the 4 convictions received in Italy by Ilaria Salis, but overlooking that none of these concern assaults and injuries.
Ilaria Salis case, Meloni on 'Porta a Porta': “We made ourselves heard by the Hungarian government, but do you know the rule of law?”
After just 3 days, the Hungarian government returns to the case of the Italian woman detained in Budapest with another post with similar tones to the previous one to reiterate a line of total firmness which obviously does not leave great hopes for the Salis family. Which sees the executive power deal with a trial and attack a private citizen who, after 10 months of silence, decided to denounce the conditions of his daughter's detention and sought the collaboration of the Italian State to improve them. But now all that is expected from Hungary is a sentence for Ilaria. Meanwhile, the writer and teacher Christian Raimo is in the storm for words spoken on TV, on L'aria che tira, speaking specifically on the Salis case.
«What should we do with the neo-Nazis? You have to beat them. I teach at school, I teach that democracy arrived because there was serious opposition to Nazism”: these are Raimo's words on which the regional school office has started an investigation.
