Alpine, updates to go back up
Among the teams that didn't like it at all rain fell during FP2 on the Suzuka circuit, essentially forcing all the drivers to remain in the pits for almost the entire session, there is certainly Alpine. The French team, coming off a terrible start to the season, needed test the new updates brought to the A524 by Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. However, the inclement weather complicated these analyses, forcing the team to rely only on the data collected in the morning.
Ocon and Gasly's comments
“Today was about taking a first look at the car's behavior with some of the new updates – Ocon himself declared – everything seemed in line with expectations in FP1 and we wanted to try something different for FP2, but we couldn't do it due to the weather. Given the limited time spent on track it is difficult to have a complete picture, but we will see what we can learn and analyze during the night to prepare for FP3. It will be a challenging session for everyone, to gather as much information as possible before tackling qualifying“.
He also expressed himself on the same wavelength Pierre Gasly: “We tried some things in today's first free practice, which were the only ones we actually did. In the afternoon there was a bit of rain which forced us to stay inside the garage for an hour. In the morning session we learned a lot about the new parts of the car. Everything worked as expected and we have some valuable data to analyze to confirm a few things. This is always the most important aspect in testing, especially when you have new updates. We'll see what we can do to improve the car for tomorrow's qualifying. So far there have been no surprises and all eyes are on the rest of the weekend“, he concluded.
