It seemed almost impossible, but Yamaha and Lin Jarvis achieved their goal. The cornerstone from which they wanted to restart the relaunch operation in MotoGP was the renewal of Fabio Quartararo. A plan that seemed more than complicated and which instead they completed even before showing “El Diablo” tangible signs of the growth of the M1.
The start of the 2024 season was anything but exciting, with gaps still heavy to digest on the bikes that are currently capable of fighting for victory and with a seventh place in Portimao (moreover favored by several retirements ) as the best result. Yet, this morning, like a bolt from the blue, the Iwata manufacturer announced that the 2021 world champion has signed a new two-year contract which will therefore only expire at the end of 2026, when this regulatory cycle of the queen class.
As the Frenchman has also underlined several times, even if the results have remained almost those of 2023, it is the approach inside the garage that has changed, also favored by the arrival of fresh forces, above all the new technical director, the former Ducati rider Max Bartolini. But even the possibility of exploiting concessions could speed up development and it is this new wave that convinced him to still place his trust in the Japanese, as the managing director Jarvis also confirmed.

“We are very happy that Fabio remains a Yamaha rider. Confirming him in the Factory Team is an integral part of the Yamaha project for MotoGP. Fabio is an exceptional talent, a hard worker, a team man and he still has many years of racing ahead of him”, Jarvis said in the press release released this morning by Yamaha.
“We are sparing no effort to ensure a bright future for Fabio by adopting a more aggressive approach to motorcycle development. We have already made significant changes to our organisation, including a new internal management system, the recruitment of the best skills in the sector , new external technical partnerships, an increased development budget and an intensified testing program.”
“All these changes were designed to accelerate the process of returning to winning ways. Fabio understood this commitment and this gave him the confidence to remain with us in the coming years.”
“Fabio has been with Yamaha since 2019 and with us, the Factory Team, since 2021. In a relatively short period of time, just four years, we have achieved many successes: 8 victories, 21 podiums, a MotoGP World title and we have been also vice-champions”.
“We are the first to admit that there is a lot of work to do to return to the level of competitiveness of 2021 and the first half of 2022. But with Fabio we know that he will always give 100% of his effort. Furthermore, it comes naturally to him to create harmony and a good atmosphere with all staff members. He can count on the full support of the team and Yamaha at every moment of his career, to win more championships together”, he concluded.
