Yesterday, World Central Kitchen called for an independent investigation into the killing of 7 of its employees in an Israeli raid in the central Gaza Strip.
On Monday, the Israeli army targeted an air strike on the “International Kitchen” convoy in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, killing 7 people of the nationalities of Australia, Poland, Britain, the United States, Canada and Palestine. Global Kitchen said in a statement: “We have asked the governments of Australia, Canada, the United States, Poland and the United Kingdom to join us in demanding an independent third-party investigation into these attacks.”
The statement explained that “the investigation includes whether the attacks were carried out intentionally or violated international law.”
He added: “Yesterday, to ensure the integrity of the investigation, we asked the Israeli government to immediately seize all documents, communications, video and audio recordings, and any other materials potentially related to the April 1 strikes.”
The Global Kitchen stressed that “conducting an independent investigation is the only way to determine the truth of what happened, ensure transparency and accountability for those responsible for the attack, and prevent future attacks on humanitarian relief workers.”
The organization considered the Israeli raids on its convoy “a military attack that included several strikes and targeted three of its vehicles carrying civilians.” She explained that “their cars carried signs indicating that they belonged to the World Cuisine Organization, and that their movements were in full coordination with the Israeli authorities, who were aware of the itinerary, its route, and the humanitarian mission.”
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged his country's responsibility for the attack, but said it was an “unintentional targeting,” while the Israeli army said it had opened an “in-depth investigation” into the incident through the highest ranks of the army to understand all its circumstances.
Following the attack, the Global Central Kitchen announced the suspension of its relief operations in Gaza, expressing its shock at the killing of 7 members of its team.
In this context, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said yesterday that Israel must apologize and pay compensation to the family of a Polish person who was among the aid workers killed by the Israeli raid in Gaza.
The Polish Prime Minister said in a press conference: “We will expect an immediate clarification of the circumstances and compensation for the relatives of the victims.”
Polish President Andrzej Duda also asked Israel to provide an apology, compensation and an investigation.
