The seventh edition of the amateur ride will be held on Sunday 7 April, promoted by the Breast Unit of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation with the aim, again this year, of raising awareness among women and the population on the importance of breast cancer prevention , through healthy nutrition and sustainable mobility, and to support research against breast cancer. Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duchess of Calabria and Palermo, will be the godmother of the event, which this year has a specific focus on the prevention of hereditary cancers, i.e. those cases linked to a genetic predisposition, today identifiable through DNA tests to detect specific mutations.
“The prevention of breast cancer – underlines Vittorio Altomare, director of the Breast unit of the Campus Bio-Medico University Polyclinic Foundation – also involves lifestyle, as well as essential screening: the risk of getting ill is in fact increased by factors such as “high alcohol consumption, obesity and metabolic syndrome, associated with a sedentary lifestyle and high-calorie diets rich in fats and simple carbohydrates. The advice is therefore to practice regular physical activity, adding to the classic daily walk – he suggests – also a further commitment in the gym , cycling, swimming, running, dancing or any sporting activity of your choice.”
“In a society that is increasingly aware of health and well-being – states Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon – it is crucial to focus on the prevention of breast cancer, a pathology that affects millions of women around the world. If we consider the latest report in 2023, around 55,900 cases of neoplasia were recorded, with an increase of 0.5% compared to 2020. From this perspective, young people like me also play a fundamental role in promoting a culture of active prevention.It therefore becomes essential to invest in genetic analysis tools capable of anticipating predisposition to the disease, and intervening at a young age. It is thanks to the incessant efforts of researchers and health workers – he recalls – that we can make significant progress in the fight against the disease. Supporting research means investing in our future and in the health of future generations”.
After the departure, scheduled for 11.30 from the “Nando Martellini” stadium in via Antonina, the Bicinrosa will head towards the center of Rome, the Imperial Forums and the Colosseum, then reverse direction and return to the stadium.
