The next model in the Renault range has been struck by the new design philosophy of Renault chief designer Gilles Vidal. After the Clio and Scenic, here is now the updated Renault Captur. You would hardly say it, but this is a facelift. The technical basis is therefore the same as the model we know today. Will the Mitsubishi ASX also get this look?
From the front, the Captur has a similar face to the Scenic. The two sleek headlights are supplemented with daytime running lights in the shape of a half diamond. These lights welcome you when unlocking and as soon as you get in you hear a welcome sound. All very friendly from the Captur. You can still clearly recognize the back from the current Captur.
Now with Android 12
New is the infotainment system that runs on Android Automotive 12. The full hybrid has an optional system called 'Hybrid Predictive Driving'. The Captur looks at the next seven kilometers of the route and determines when the car can best drive electrically. If you have not set a route, the Captur will use 'the most likely route'.
The use of chrome parts is limited by Renault, something you are increasingly seeing with all car brands. Once inside the new Renault, there is new upholstery made exclusively from recycled products. There are two new screens: the one in the middle measures 10.4 inches and the screen in front of the driver is 10.25 inches.
The most useful function remains
The Renault Captur had taken over one function from the original Twingo, and it is still present. You can slide the rear seat forward or backward by 16 centimeters. This sounds like a simple function, but anyone with a more compact car knows what it's like to miss just a few centimeters of cargo space. With the rear seats all the way forward, the luggage space measures 616 liters.
The engines of the new Renault Captur
The updated Renault Captur can be ordered with a choice of four powertrains. The range starts with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine that has 90 hp and 160 Nm. This powertrain is also available on LPG. There is also a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with a mild-hybrid system. With 160 hp and 270 Nm, this is the strongest and fastest new Captur. From 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.5 seconds.
The most popular option for the current Captur is the hybrid with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors. Combined, the combustion engine and e-motors produce 145 hp and 205 Nm. The 0-100 time is rounded to ten seconds. According to Renault, this car could drive electrically 80 percent of the time in the city. The plug-in hybrid seems to be discontinued.
You can opt for 17- to 19-inch wheels and there is an Esprit Alpine version, which is the blue Captur that you see in the pictures above. It is not yet known what the new Renault Captur will cost. The new Renault will be available at Dutch dealers sometime in the summer of this year.
