If despite everything we can still borrow a Russian name, it cannot be said that the stagehand we are talking about is exactly a Stakhanov.
But who can blame him? After all, he had every reason.
What happened? It happened that his shift was over and when a work shift ends, the worker is authorized to switch off. It's a shame, however, that in this case, this gentleman's task would have been to bring the convoy he was driving to its destination and which instead, given his departure, remained stopped in a station 60 kilometers from the destination.
No, it didn't happen on the tracks at home, but in Spain and more precisely in Sahagún. And the story was told by one of the passengers, who also published the video of the announcement on social media. «Train canceled because the driver has finished his work shift».
He, together with dozens of other passengers, was headed to Leon, a city in the north of Spain. He was left on foot and had to make do, like all the other unfortunates who could do nothing except realize the situation and wait an hour before discovering that the train would never leave again.
Many of the travelers were forced to get off and take a bus. Naturally suffering the inconvenience of changing to a slower vehicle subject to motorway traffic which resulted in arriving at the destination two and a half hours later than the scheduled time.
Renfe (Trenitalia's Spanish counterpart) later explained that the driver had had to take another route before reaching the Madrid-León connection and that in that previous shift there had been a delay of 88 minutes, extending the time driving he had planned that day.
In essence, the worker in question, once he arrived in Sahagún, had reached the maximum limit allowed by law to command a convoy. And then he left.
A big inconvenience for users, of course. But they certainly gained in terms of safety. And this is no small thing.
