Rally | Ott Tänak roasted at breakneck speed without notes – MTV's expert in disbelief: “No weld”

Estonian rally star Ott Tänak showed his composure on Saturday in the Safari Rally after getting into a rare situation in the middle of the race's 9th special stage.

During a special test, Tänak lost the helmet phone connection to his kart Martin Järveoja, but that didn't exactly slow Hyundai's conkar driver down. While Järveoja gestured at the notes with his hands as best he could, Tänak kept the gas pedal down and the car on track.

MTV Sports expert Jari Ketomaa burst into disbelieving laughter in the studio when he saw the Estonian going on the long straight.

“No weld, without a note, 180 (kilometers per hour)…” Ketomaa cackled.

Based on the TV broadcast, Tänak's speed increased to at least 195 kilometers per hour on the long straight. He was sixth fastest in the special test and left behind his teammate by Thierry Neuville 15.7 seconds from the base time.

“You have to trust yourself and the fact that the carter will say that I'm trying to guess where this is going. A great performance from Tänak in the meantime”, Ketomaa said.

Thank you had to stop the rally on Friday due to a crash and thus fell out of the top fight, but returned to the race for Saturday's special tests. Toyota's Kalle Rovanperä leads the competition by far.
