Tekken 8 includes a series of microtransactions, never seen well by fans, and now it takes a further step in this direction: a new update will be available on April 1st and will, among other things, introduce a Battle Pass.
It will be called Tekken Pass and will typically have a free version to allow players to level up by completing daily missions and weekly challenges via online matches to unlock “various items”. It was not specified what these objects are.
Furthermore, there will also be a paid version which – in addition to the basic items – will also allow you to obtain “something of higher quality” and will also allow you to obtain Tekken Coins to spend in the in-store shop.
The update also takes care of introducing Eddy Gordo.
The reason for Tekken 8's microtransactions
As mentioned, Tekken 8 has received various criticisms for the introduction of microtransactionsbut it's obvious that the development team and publisher were well aware of this.
The reason given by the director – Katsuro Harada – is that “times change” and “development costs have grown”. To his credit, Tekken 8 cost up to three times as much as Tekken 7 and remember that continuing to support the game for a long period of time costs money.
