Cadillac loses 4th place
Almost a month has passed since the first test of this year's championship, namely the 1812 km of Qatarbut only on the eve of the Easter weekend did an official statement arrive from the FIA and ACO sports commissioners decreeing the disqualification of Cadillac #2. The V-Series.R, led by the trio of Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Sebastien Bourdais and who had brought the American prototype to the 4th place finishwas in fact excluded from the final ranking for one'technical irregularity.
The bodywork at the center of everything
The motivation behind this heavy decision is to be found in the non-conformity of the bodywork. The car, managed by another American company such as Chip Ganassi Racing, actually had some discrepancies between the official CAD version model presented at the time of approval and the one used in Losail. Specifically, after long and in-depth technical checks, it was ascertained by 3D analysis that the rear diffuser flapsmounted on both sides of the car, were higher and misaligned compared to the technical models that regulate the LMDh cars.
No intentionality
In document #96 released today on March 28, “The Stewards believe that there was no intentional behavior on the part of the competitor and the supplier company. Regardless of this, there is a violation of the technical regulations, which should have been sanctioned with a disqualification.”. Cadillac responded to this ruling with the following note: “During the FIA WEC race in Qatar on March 2, the rear diffuser flaps of the #2 Cadillac V-Series.R were unintentionally out of specification for the approved height. We have collaborated with the FIA and the ACO and we accept their conclusions“.
Other sanctions
The disqualification is in addition to that imposed on Peugeot #93, guilty of having crossed the finish line with only hybrid energy after running out of fuel and subsequently failing to reach parc fermé. To the 4th placethus, it goes up Ferrari #83 by AF Corse with Robert Kubica, Robert Shwartzman and Yifei Ye. At Ferrari, in addition, there is also one fine of 60,000 euro inflicted on the team AF Corse for having employed three more people than previously communicated for the #54 of the LMGT3 class.
