Russian authorities announced this Thursday (28) that they arrested an alleged financier of the terrorist attack carried out at the Crocus City Hall, in the country's capital, Moscow, last Friday (22).
This attack has so far resulted in the deaths of 143 people and more than 100 injuries, as well as around 95 missing.
Russia's Investigative Committee, which is handling the case, said the alleged financier had been identified, detained and placed in pre-trial detention. However, in the announcement about the arrest of this individual, the Russian authorities once again tried to link the crime to Ukraine, even though the terrorist group Islamic State of Khorasan had publicly claimed responsibility for the massacre that took place in the capital.
The committee claims that it obtained “verifiable information that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrencies, which were used in the preparation of the crime, from Ukraine”, but, to date, has not presented concrete evidence to support such an accusation.
“The detained terrorists' link to Ukrainian nationalists was obtained through analysis of their electronic devices and financial transactions,” the committee said.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has been trying to link the case to Ukraine since his statement about the attack. He has already said that the attack was the work of “radical Islamists” who tried to flee to Ukraine, but this was denied by his counterpart in Belarus, the dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who stated that in fact the terrorists tried to escape through Belarus.
Ukraine has repeatedly denied having been involved in the attack.
