The International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take measures to ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The resolution was published on March 28 at website authorities.
It is noted that since January 26, when the authority ordered Israel to take temporary measures due to the situation in the Gaza Strip, the living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza have deteriorated even further.
“The Court orders <...> to take all necessary and effective measures for <...> the unimpeded provision, as a matter of urgency, of necessary basic services and humanitarian assistance[…]throughout Gaza,” the text says.
Earlier that day, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that more than 32.5 thousand people were killed as a result of Israeli strikes. The number of victims increased to 74,980 people.
On March 26, the press secretary of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Moscow, Galina Balzamova, in an interview with Izvestia, said that the situation in the enclave is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe. Thus, in the city of Rafah, the space for providing humanitarian assistance is shrinking.
Prior to this, on March 12, a group of eight Democratic senators suggested that US President Joe Biden put pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to lift the ban on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave. As leverage, senators proposed stopping the transfer of American weapons to Israel.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when Hamas subjected Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, and also invaded the border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. That same day, Israel began retaliating against targets in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians are seeking to return the borders between the two countries to the lines that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses these conditions.
