Man man man. The Chinese from Beijing Motor are making the copy machine work overtime with this Beijing BJ80 Lunar Exploration Vehicle!
You may not have noticed that a lot of Chinese car brands have been added in a short time. And you can say what you want about them, almost all of them look neat. Sometimes helped by well-known designers, sometimes they already have an excellent design team themselves. The days of the past, when Chinese car brands would blindly imitate everything, are long gone.
At least, that's what we thought. Because this is the Beijing BJ80 Lunar Exploration Edition and man oh man what a copy of something we've seen before. In this case it is a straight copy of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
And by straight copy we really mean straight. These are just a few details that show that this is not the case That's Original by Das Haus is.
What do I see?
Those details do make it uglier, by the way. Check out those bumpers, very cool rims and the extremely cheap-looking rear lights. At the front, the headlights are (slightly) different than on a Mercedes-Benz G-class, but come on: only the connoisseur sees that. Ask 10 people which car this Beijing BJ80 Lunar Exploration Edition is and they will say: a G-wagon!
So much for all the negative points, is there anything positive to report? Well, the price isn't bad. Nowadays you can only order a G-Class 'on request' in the Netherlands (at corresponding prices of at least 2.5 tons), the Being BJ80 Lunar Exloration Edition is much cheaper: approximately 45 grand converted.
Beijing BJ80 Lunar Exploration Edition
The Lunar Exploration Edition cannot drive on the moon, despite the name somewhat suggesting that. But then again, the BMW C1 Family Friend (yes, it really existed) was not family friendly either. You can recognize the Lunar Exploration Edition by the 'gorgeous' wheels, the carbon decorations and the luxurious interior. The color silver is also completely new!
Under the hood is a 3.0 turbo engine (from Wuling, you know) that is linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is good for 280 hp and 420 Nm, not really very impressive figures for the type of engine. But then again, with an off-roader it doesn't really matter.
By the way, and this is no joke, according to the Chinese, the BJ80 is better than the G-Class. A while ago a test was done with a regular BJ80 against a G-Class. Considering that the G-class was more expensive and Mercedes had more time and experience, the BJ80 won the comparative test.
