WayForward Technologies suffered a huge data theft, with several prototypes and pieces of source code finished online. We are talking about the series development studio Shantaeas well as many other games developed over the many years of activity.
Just recently released titles such as Lunark and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp.
The problem, in this case, is that the hackers didn't have to make much effort to obtain the data, as they found it on a scrap hard drive, as reported by Lance McDonald.
Prototypes and source code online
Apparently, the stolen data dates back to the period from 2009 to 2013.
The emergence of prototypes does not represent much of a detriment, but the source code is a different matter. However, we will see the consequences for Wayforward.
This is just another case of data theft in recent years. Recently, data has been stolen from major companies such as Insomniac Games and Rockstar Games. A ransomware group also claimed to have stolen data from Epic Games, but it turned out to be fake.
Wayforward's next game is Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, which will start pre-order on April 7th.
