The Colombian Nicolás Echavarría continues in the fight for the title of the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, a PGA Tour tournament, whose last round will be completed this Monday, from 8 in the morning.
Echavarría managed to play 13 holes yesterday, in a day that suffered delays due to bad weather. He was -3 on the last day, with five birdies and two bogeys.
He has a cumulative score of -11, leaving him, for now, four behind the lead, which was occupied by the American Austin Eckroat. At the time of the suspension of the round, the Colombian was preparing to make his third shot on the 14th hole, with a good chance of scoring a birdie.
Echavarría has just finished in the top 25 at the Mexico Open and is looking to continue climbing positions in the FedEx Cup table.
“I think I am coming to this tournament at a very good time, the sensations of last week left me calm and I now know better how to play on this field, after what happened in 2023. I am going for another good performance that will allow me to continue getting closer to the objectives and move up the rankings,” said the Antioquian before starting the tournament.
For his part, Colombian Camilo Villegas, who won this event in 2010, when it was called Honda Classic, already finished his performance this week: he made his best card of the tournament, 68 strokes, three under par, to finish with 285 (+ 1).
Villegas and Echavarría will leave Palm Beach for Puerto Rico
The two Colombians will be at the Puerto Rico Open starting Thursday, in which Echavarría defends the title obtained last year.
Both Echavarría and Villegas will have this competition as their last stop before facing the 'fifth big' of golf, The Players, which will begin on March 14 and will distribute a purse of 25 million dollars.
The American Scottie Scheffler, world number one, will defend the title, this time without the presence of the Spanish Jon Rahm, who went to play at LIV Golf.
