The Vatican reported that the measure was taken as a precaution; did not provide further details about the pontiff's health status
Pope Francis, 86 years old, canceled his appointments this Saturday (Feb 24, 2024) because of a flu. In a press release, the Vatican reported that the measure was taken as a “precaution” and that the pontiff has mild symptoms.
“Due to a mild flu-like condition, the Pope canceled today’s audiences as a precautionary measure”, communicated the Holy See's press organ, without giving further details about Francis' health status.
This is not the first time that Pope Francis has canceled appointments because of flu-like symptoms. In November 2023, the Vatican issued a note saying that the pope had the flu. At the time, the condition progressed to a lung infection that made him cancel his trip to COP 28 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change), in December.
