Russian soldiers miraculously escaped in a buggy from a kamikaze drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Avdeevka
Soldiers of the group of Russian troops “Center” in buggies escaped from a kamikaze drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) flying at them in Avdeevka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
The incident was captured by a camera on the helmet of a Russian soldier. During the trip, the soldiers noticed an FPV drone flying towards them (first-person view, “first-person view” – note by Lenta.ru). To deceive the operator of the Ukrainian drone, the driver of the buggy picked up speed and began to maneuver. Soon an explosion was heard near the car. As a result, all Russian fighters were unharmed, some of them received a slight concussion.
In addition, as a Russian military man with the call sign Vesna said, the second Ukrainian kamikaze drone tried to shoot down another buggy, on the way of which there was a shot down Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicle. The fighters managed to stop abruptly and disperse.
Russia studied a captured Ukrainian FPV drone
Russian specialists examined an intact FPV drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As the Tula manufacturer of drones and electronic warfare equipment (EW) said, the military suppressed a Ukrainian UAV on the line of combat contact using electronic warfare equipment. After it was landed and neutralized, it was transferred for study.
The drone had a standard seven-inch frame. It was also equipped with a remote cocking device, video transmitter, FPV camera and brushless motors made in China.

In May 2023, Russian fighters obtained a US-made FPV drone with batteries used by NASA in a special military operation (SVO) zone. In August, the Russian Armed Forces captured a reconnaissance drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Zaporozhye region.
In Russia, work on FPV drones began even before the start of the SVO
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, even before the start of the SVO, instructed special units to begin work on FPV drones. As the head of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CCBR) Dmitry Kuzyakin said, the head of the defense department gave the corresponding instruction in the summer of 2021 during the international military-technical forum “Army-2021” during a meeting with specialists.
It is obvious that our leadership just had an understanding of the future significance of the new wave of UAVs, based on accessible components and open software
Kuzyakin added that after this, the Central Design Bureau “began to work very actively, develop equipment and train pilots, which later became news to our enemy during a special operation in Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian Armed Forces complained about attacks by Russian drones
US Armed Forces mercenary Matt Vandyke complained that the Russian military was hunting Ukrainian soldiers using drones. He noted that Russian troops are carrying out intensive strikes and dropping grenades on the positions of the Ukrainian army. According to Vandyke, mercenaries from his group were also hit.
Before this, it became known that the “Barbarian” detachment of the “Akhmat” special forces disrupted the rotation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kleshcheevka area in the Artemovsk direction. As the group commander with the call sign Varvar said, a Russian FPV drone flew into the Ukrainian machine gunner’s nest twice. “It was evacuated at night and new forces were brought in there. The next day they are again [разбомбили]”, the fighter said.
In December 2023, retired Ukrainian general Sergei Krivonos pointed out that the Russian army is effectively using FPV drones in the Northern Military District zone, thereby paralyzing the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also recognized the technological superiority of the Russian army.
