Over 2000 high school students from all over Lazio and surrounding areas participated today in the 2024 winter open day, an orientation day at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The event was hosted in the Faculty of Economics which made all its classrooms available for the occasion. The future freshmen boys and girls attended a plenary presentation by the delegate for orientation, tutoring and placement, Professor Vito Introna, and the delegates for orientation of the macro areas. An event that lasts all day from 9.30am dedicated to school groups and ends in the afternoon at 6.00pm with the classrooms also open to individual students and families.
The high school students were able to dialogue with the heads of the six faculties and participate in lessons, workshops and practical demonstrations. Law, Engineering, Literature and Philosophy, Economics, Medicine and mathematical, physical and natural sciences: the faculties gave information on the over 70 degree courses offered by Rome Tor Vergata. The university's researchers involved the future freshmen in experiments, games, explanations and laboratory activities.
Among the most interesting: the crime scene for Law, the resuscitation dummies for Medicine, experiments for Chemistry and Biology, the economic theory pills “so as not to lose your temper!”. Also present were the university students of the Scuderia Tor Vergata who they compete throughout Europe with the Formula Sae single-seater created in the mechanical engineering laboratories.
This is the comment of Professor Vito Introna, delegate for orientation, tutoring and placement of the Tor Vergata University of Rome: “Events like these serve to raise awareness of the Tor Vergata University. Once the kids get to know us, they place their trust in us. The trend is definitely growing, in fact in the last 5 years we continue to grow organically and this is proof that days like these are particularly important. During this event we have already seen that we have the maximum number of registered people for next month's event, which gives an idea of how much demand there is. We are very happy about this, it is a work that we carry out with many colleagues: with passion we go to schools to make people understand what it means to study at Tor Vergata and the children really appreciate it”.
In addition to the educational offer, there is a lot of information on the academic life of future students: where to stay (for foreign or off-site students); information for leaving on Erasmus; facilitated conditions for purchases and subscriptions thanks to the Agevola network of companies affiliated with Rome Tor Vergata; direct discussions with the student secretariats; with Caris, the university commission for the inclusion of students with disabilities; the Cus university sports center and the reception service and welcome office, which accompanies all students, including foreign ones, in their first steps at the university.
The next orientation days are in March and July 2024
