UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wished British King Charles III a full and speedy recovery after being diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer, according to Buckingham Palace on Monday (5).
“I have no doubt he will be back to full capacity soon and I know the whole country will be wishing him the best,” wrote Sunak on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Also through the same social network, the leader of the Labor opposition, Keir Starmer, conveyed his best wishes for the British monarch's recovery and highlighted his desire to see him recover his health soon.
After learning the news, other political figures in the country also wanted to wish King Charles III, 75, a speedy recovery.
Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, for example, conveyed to the king the good wishes of parliamentarians “for successful treatment and a speedy recovery.”
In a speech to deputies, Hoyle highlighted on behalf of all members of Parliament his sympathy for the monarch and his family.
Former Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, as well as London Mayor Sadiq Khan, also wished the monarch a speedy recovery from cancer.
In a statement published this Monday, the British royal family explained that the tumor was discovered during the recent surgical procedure the monarch underwent to treat an enlarged prostate at the end of January, although the British public broadcaster “BBC” had guaranteed that it is not prostate cancer.
The 75-year-old king began a schedule of regular treatments today, during which he will suspend his public activities, according to Buckingham.
According to the palace, despite canceling his upcoming public activities, Charles III will continue to carry out his office work as normal.
“Her Majesty chose to share her diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it may help public understanding for all people in the world who are affected by cancer,” highlights the statement.
The note also highlights that Charles III feels “very positive” about the treatment and intends to “return to full public activity as soon as possible”.
