The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Monday, 5th, that it approved R$500 million in financing for Volkswagen projects in the research and development of technologies for hybrid and electric cars.
The financing, from the BNDES Mais Inovação line, which has a financial cost at a reference rate (TR), is aligned with the new industrial policy and its sustainable mobility objectives.
The announcement comes three days after the automaker expanded its investment plan from 2022 to 2028 by R$9 billion, to a total of R$16 billion.
Studies and research will be carried out to design a flex hybrid vehicle platform, in which the conventional engine powered by gasoline or ethanol works together with an electric motor.
The financing, as reported by BNDES, also covers studies of 100% electric vehicles in Brazil.
