There was a new mobile game focused on NieR in development at Tencentbut the Chinese giant has decided to delete the projectapparently, although work had already been well underway for two years.
The game in question was never officially announced but there was a demo, released internally, which showed something of the combat system and story of this particular NieR mobileaccording to Reuters.
According to this source, the NieR in question had been in development for almost two years and the skeleton was practically ready: the problem, reportedly, was the difficulty in finding “a monetization model working well” for the title in question.
High costs and difficulties in monetization
carnation, un’immagine]Considering the production costs that were looming, Tencent had to find an effective monetization model to cover these and generate profit, but evidently it was not easy to associate a well-functioning system with the structure of the game, or at least it was difficult to find one that was “compelling” for the players.
Another factor that led to the cancellation of the new NieR would also be the need to pay for royalties to the owners of the IP, i.e. Square Enix: these usually concern a percentage of the profits, which could have been higher than 10% based on what was reported.
Without being able to find the monetization system and with such high costs also due to royalties, Tencent decided to totally cancel the game before even announcing it. Just in recent days, the closure of another NieR title on the mobile front was also announced, with NieR Reincarnation which will be closed on April 29, 2024 after two and a half years of activity.
