His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Chairman of the Executive Council, launched the Family Income and Expenditure Survey project for the Emirate of Ajman, which is implemented by the Ajman Statistics Centre.
This came during His Highness's meeting, in the Ruler's Court, with the Household Income and Expenditure Survey work team, where he listened to a comprehensive explanation of the project, from Dr. Hajar Al-Hubaishi, Executive Director of the Center, and Mrs. Hessa bin Zayed, Project Director.
The Crown Prince of Ajman stressed that the survey is one of the important statistical surveys, and it is the largest and most comprehensive after the population census project in terms of importance and provision of statistics, due to the information it provides that enables decision makers to develop development and economic policies and plans aimed at raising the standard of living and achieving stability and well-being for society.
His Highness said that the census is important in the process of renaissance due to the studies it provides related to the local community and specialized reports on families in the emirate, which contribute to developing social and economic strategies and policies and launching initiatives that achieve family stability and benefit the individual, society and the emirate.
His Highness added that His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, attaches the utmost importance to providing a decent life for Emirati and resident families, and harnessing all capabilities to achieve their aspirations, happiness and quality of life, and at the same time contribute to the prosperity of the emirate.
For her part, Dr. Hajar Al Hubaishi, Executive Director of the Ajman Statistics Center, confirmed that the project targets Emirati and non-Emirati families in Ajman and the Masfout and Manama regions, stressing that it will be implemented with high quality to ensure the provision of accurate statistical data that contributes to the introduction of initiatives that support improving the quality of life of families.
She said that the center will prepare specialized reports and studies based on the results of the survey, as it provides economic and social databases that show the reality of household spending, consumption and income, consumption patterns and social and economic conditions for various segments of society, in addition to measuring the level of well-being and quality of life in the emirate.
She added that the aim of conducting a household income and expenditure survey is to study the social and economic levels of Emirati families and those residing in the emirate, measure the level of community well-being, identify the impact of demographic, social and economic factors on the family, estimate the average family and individual income and the average annual consumer expenditure for each, and update the basket of goods. It is used to calculate inflation, in addition to improving living conditions, meeting the needs of citizens, and identifying the necessary data to study the standard of living to establish a basis for the social assistance program.
Dr. Al-Hubaishi explained that the survey provides accurate information about the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of the members and components of society, which include gender, age, nationality, educational level, marital status, relationship to the labor force, profession, economic activity, work status, etc., and then links these characteristics to the family’s income and expenditure rates. It helps to update the base years for statistical indicators such as inflation rates due to the periodicity of implementing the survey extending to five years, providing seasonal coverage of household income and spending rates, and extracting many indicators such as determining the basket of goods and services, consumer price indicators, the cost of living index, indicators of social and economic well-being, and determining the sufficiency line. Self-reporting for families, and preparing a food budget for them to help assess the level, trends and structure of economic well-being.
She stressed that all data provided by families will be treated with complete confidentiality and will only be used for statistical and planning purposes, pointing out that the success of the survey depends in general on the extent of families’ responsiveness and cooperation with field researchers.
For her part, Mrs. Hessa bin Zayed, Project Manager, said that the survey work began by preparing and coordinating visits at the beginning of this year, and contacting families to inform them of the importance of the survey and its objectives and collecting primary data, explaining that the field work in it will continue over a period of 12 months in order to cover a sample of families at the level of The emirate shall be representative and comprehensive of the various regions and sectors in the emirate.
She noted the participation of a large number of researchers, field supervisors, and auditors with experience and specialization, who were carefully selected, trained, qualified, and honed in their expertise, in accordance with the best practices and approved international standards.
At the end of the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi expressed his thanks and appreciation to the work team of Ajman Statistics Center employees for their kind efforts, dedication and effective contribution to the completion of this large and important work. His Highness called on all Emirati families residing in the Emirate of Ajman to cooperate with field researchers from Ajman Statistics Center who visit it to complete the required data and accurately answer the survey form questions.
His Highness directed those in charge of the project and its work team to make more efforts to make it a success, and to ensure that it is of great importance to families, and to explain the resulting initiatives that strengthen their cohesion and cohesion at the social and economic levels.
