In Russia, the number of observers during the presidential elections will be increased by a third compared to 2018. Alena Bulgakova, chairman of the OP commission on public control and work with citizens’ appeals, told Izvestia about this.
“We plan to train about 200 thousand observers for these presidential elections,” she said.
To train observers, there are training events and methodological complexes developed by the Independent Public Monitoring Association, added Alena Bulgakova. The largest number of observers, according to her, were prepared to vote on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation – about 527 thousand people were trained in 2020.
In addition, as reported by the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, the presidential elections will be monitored by 500 to 1 thousand international observers from more than 100 countries – representatives of some of them will come as part of delegations of international organizations.
“They will be able to go to the regions they see fit. They will have the opportunity to honestly, impartially and openly evaluate the elections,” she noted.
As Izvestia was told by the Central Election Commission, there are no plans to invite observers from unfriendly states to the elections. Earlier, the commission said that invitations were received by representatives of the CIS countries, Venezuela, Cambodia, Namibia, Cameroon, Myanmar, Thailand, Serbia, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
