There are now only a few days left until the actual launch of the much talked about product AMD 8000G series APU; just a few days ago we had the opportunity to discover how well these perform in the first tests we were able to see and the gap compared to the previous generation is truly impressive.
The AMD APU world had in fact been without updates for the desktop part for 2 years now and it should not be surprising that the performance leap is so important, even if it is always very challenging to be able to see such different numbers from one generation to the next.
But if the new APUs had an easy time flexing their muscles against the previous generation, the situation changes if the comparison is made against one of the most powerful and loved processors of this generation, such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
However, it seems that this detail did not scare the new APU, which definitely responded in kind…
Head to head
The well-known leaker @momomo_us managed to find a benchmark carried out on the new Ryzen 7 8700G APU through the CPU-Z database and, having made all the necessary assumptions, the resulting result is truly worthy of attention.
It should be remembered, for the record, that CPU-Z is certainly not the most stressful benchmark that we can turn to, but is still able to give us preliminary and valuable information on what we could expect from AMD's new APUs, if only in the 2D part.
The new APU, despite a significant reduction in TDP which drops to 65 W compared to the 120 W of the 7800X3D, it proves capable of holding its own in both single core and multicore benchmarks, with some laughable differences.
The two benchmarks bring to the table some small differences that do not help to make a precise comparison and this leaves the margin for a certain degree of inaccuracy that we must consider: a more adequate comparison certainly should have taken place on the same platformboth hardware and software side.
Net of all these considerations, we cannot lose sight of a fundamental detail: the new Ryzen 7 8700G APU truly offers remarkable performance and if it is able to prove itself on the 3D side – in conjunction with the 780M GPU – as well as on the 2D side it will be a very welcome addition to AMD's product portfolio.
