The world of video games in 2023 was threatened by certain problems, since several companies within the industry began to lay off part of their workforce, we saw that with Ubisoft, Amazon Games, Xbox, Codemasters, among other greats in the business. And after the fateful year you would think that the waters were going to calm down for the moment, but apparently we are wrong, since a large graphics engine development company is also joining the trend but in 2024.
As reported in a document this week, Unity is planning to reduce its workforce, specifically the 25% of all staff, which translates to just over 1,800 people who will soon have to leave their place in the company. Adding that this is part of a restructuring, all in order to recover costs that were not achieved last year, this as part of the controversy that its CEO created months ago.
The company said it expects to complete the layoffs by the end of its current fiscal year in March and that all areas and regions of its business would be affected. Needless to say, the president was removed from the company after the company provoked a backlash from the development community by announcing strange monetization plans for its game development product, a law that at least currently has not entered in force, unless they want to make slight modifications.
Something that stands out compared to other companies is that this is the fourth time in a row that company layoffs have been reported, so apparently some development studios could have taken a step back in the development of their games out of fear. to bad practices. However, it seems that Unity She is calm and thinks that this change will be positive for the future, so for now they will operate normally and in later days stability would arrive, although initially the decrease in activity will be felt.

Editor's note: It is normal that this happened, since some investors were able to back out because it was not convenient for them to ally themselves with a company partially hated by the community and the industry. However, that bitter pill has fortunately passed.
