Precautions
Civil Defense advises that if there is a lightning strike, you should seek shelter in buildings. In flooded areas with flash floods, a sheet of water 15 cm deep can carry people away and, from 30 cm deep, it is capable of carrying a car. It is also important to avoid wooded areas due to the risk of falling trees.
In places affected by strong gusts of wind, people should seek safe shelter, avoiding trees or fragile metal coverings; stay away from windows, glass and piercing objects, electrical cables, transmission towers, billboards, scaffolding and other fragile structures.
Residents of hillside areas need to watch for signs of soil movement. Before large landslides, they should be on the lookout for cracks in walls, stuck doors and windows, leaning posts and trees, and muddy water running down the hill. If you see any of these signs, the location must be left immediately.
