Members of the Parliamentary Division Group of the Federal National Council in the Arab Parliament participated in the meetings of the permanent Arab Parliament committees that were held yesterday, in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, in preparation for the general session of Parliament scheduled to be held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The Parliamentary Division Group includes in its membership: Muhammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi, head of the group, member of the Foreign, Political and National Security Affairs Committee, Naima Abdullah Al-Sharhan, vice-chairman of the group, member of the Social, Educational, Cultural and Women’s Affairs Committee, Muhammad Hassan Al-Dhahouri, member of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and Majid Muhammad. Al Mazroui is a member of the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee.
Muhammad Al-Yamahi said that during the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the current political and security developments in the Arab world were reviewed, and the most prominent developments in a number of Arab countries, and a memorandum for preparing a comprehensive Arab vision regarding enhancing security and stability in the Arab world was also reviewed.
Al Yamahi also participated in the Palestine Committee meeting, which reviewed the Palestinian issue and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
For her part, Naima Al-Sharhan said that the Social Affairs Committee discussed the report on the social situation of the Arab world, which includes social and cultural developments in the Arab countries, and how to confront negative phenomena in Arab societies. The committee also discussed activating the establishment of a fund to support the Arabic language in the least developed Arab countries. The committee also discussed the preparation of a document on women’s empowerment in the Arab world.
In turn, Muhammad Al-Dhahouri said that the Financial Affairs Committee reviewed the provisions related to the economic aspects of the Arab Parliament, most notably the draft budget of the Arab Parliament for the current year 2024, and presented a draft law regulating combating losses in the food supply chain “food loss and waste,” and stressed the importance of this law in light of The world as a whole is suffering from a food security crisis and the rise in food prices, noting that the committee also reviewed the proposal to establish the Arab Court of Arbitration, specialized in resolving commercial and economic disputes.
Majid Al Mazrouei said that the Legislative Affairs Committee reviewed its work plan for the current year, and the axes of the report on the situation of human rights in the Arab world for the year 2023, which included the most prominent challenges facing human rights in Arab countries, and the initiatives and efforts of the Arab Parliament to enhance efforts in this file. It also discussed The committee drafted an Arab parliamentary vision to address the negative repercussions of natural disasters on human rights in the Arab world.
