Connect cars and residential spaces thanks to Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services. Hyundai and Kia have signed an agreement with Samsung Electronics for a partnership that has the task of connecting mobility and homes even remotely. Customers who own cars of the two Korean brands will be able to control digital technology devices via voice and touch commands through the infotainment systems and vice versa, they will be able to remotely control various vehicle functions via AI speakers, TV and smartphone apps.
Check your car's home
This was achieved through the organic integration between Hyundai and Kia's connected car services and Samsung's Internet of Things (IoT) platform, “SmartThings”. For example, you can activate “Home Mode” to turn on the installed air conditioner or air purifier or start the robot vacuum cleaner and turn on the lights before arriving at your home. Before leaving, you can activate “Away Mode” to turn off unnecessary lights and start the robot vacuum cleaner, so you can then return to a clean environment, as well as pre-activating the vehicle's air conditioning to a comfortable temperature.
Specific functions with Hyundai and Kia
In the case of Hyundai and Kia's Car-to-Home service, users will be able to save and use specific modes for each situation, in order to minimize the use of the device while driving. For example, in addition to the touchscreen and voice commands, automatic location-based functions will be implemented to provide a more comfortable service for customers. Additionally, electric vehicle owners will be able to use SmartThings' integrated home energy management service to monitor energy usage in their home and vehicle and adjust optimal charging times.
Increasingly smart infotainment
Hyundai and Kia plan to expand their Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services to overseas customers by connecting their connected car platforms and Samsung SmartThings. To this end, Hyundai and Kia will develop stable infotainment systems capable of providing these services through over-the-air (OTA) and USB updates for existing vehicles as well.
