The city of São Paulo recorded intense rain and strong winds for the 2nd day in a row this Tuesday (9.Jan.2024). The Fire Department reported that a man, whose identity was not disclosed, died after a live wire fell, at 5:23 pm, on Rua Pedro de Toledo, in Moema. The accident left another victim, a woman, who was rescued in serious condition.
According to data from the CGE (Emergency Management Center), air gusts reached 96km per hour.
Firefighters also recorded at least 186 calls for downed trees and 1 call for collapse or collapse in the capital and metropolitan region as of 6:15 p.m.
In the late afternoon of this 3rd (9th January), the CGE reported that the state of attention for flooding had ended for 8 areas of São Paulo because the zones of instability formed by the heat and entry of the sea breeze “lost strength”.
On Monday (January 8), a 58-year-old man died after being hit by a tree that fell due to the force of the winds in Itupeva, a municipality about 70 km from the capital of São Paulo. He was hit while getting out of the car to open the garage door.
Due to the storm, some residents of the capital of São Paulo remain without electricity. Enel, responsible for energy supply in the city, reported that the service has already been restored to 96% of customers, but that they are still working to normalize the supply to customers who are without electricity due to heavy rain on Monday.
“The company reinforced its emergency action plan in the municipalities served with early mobilization, working with more than 800 teams in the field to rebuild sections of the electrical network damaged by falling trees and large branches,” stated Enel.
