For Silvio Almeida (Human Rights), it is not “tolerable” for violations on networks to be a source of profit
The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, once again defended this Tuesday (9 January 2023) the regulation of social networks. In your profile on X (former Twitter), the lawyer said he was not “tolerable” It is “acceptable” what “violent, uncivilized and criminal behavior has a guaranteed space and is a source of easy profit for people without any commitment to the Brazilian people”.
For him, “State institutions will, in the name of democracy and national sovereignty, have to take a stand” on network regulation.
The minister also mentioned the speech by the president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and minister of STF (Supreme Federal Court), Alexandre de Moraes, during the ceremony to commemorate one year of January 8th.
Almeida stated that Moraes “it was necessary to draw attention to the way in which the lack of regulation of social networks has contributed decisively to the destabilization of democracy and national institutions, through the systematic dissemination of fake news and the propagation of hate speech”.
The regulation of networks should be one of the priorities of Planalto and the Supreme Court at the beginning of 2024. Currently, the agenda is blocked in Congress since the rapporteur of the PL of fake news in the Chamber of Deputies, deputy Orlando Silva (PC do B-SP), asked for the text to be removed from the agenda, on May 2, 2023, as it did not have sufficient support for its approval.
