Naples, farewell to one of the symbols of the city. But it's for a good cause
One of the symbols of the city of Naples has become the neighborhood of San Giovanni a Teduccio, eastern suburbs of the city. There is only one reason, on one of the degraded buildings in the area – we read in Il Corriere della Sera – the mural of Maradona. But soon that painted blow-up of the Pibe de Oro will disappear. “Obviously I am sorrybut let's not forget that the work served precisely to turn on the spotlight about the Bronx, and to give a voice to the people who live there.”Bronx” which the Italian-Dutch street artist Jorit Agoch, aka Ciro Cerullo, talks about, has been an area of Naples for too long abandoned to itself. So nicknamed because of the social hardship that she mixes with crime, where in 2017 in a building in via Taverna del Ferro she created the largest mural in the world by Diego Armando Maradona, 40 meters tall, accompanied by the writing “Dioshumano”.

The fundamental thing, concludes the street artist who created the work, “is the great result, not at all obvious, that they will finally be given better homes to the people who live in the “Bronx”. And I'm sure Diego would be happy about this. It's sort of yet another miracle that Diego has accomplished”. The work that portrays Maradona – continues Il Corriere – was completed thanks to the funds received from the then Napoli captain Marek Hamsik and by the contribution of local associations. A year after finishing Maradona's work, on the facade of the building next door, the same artist painted the face of a autistic child of the neighborhood, Niccolò, portrayed with lowered eyes and an elusive gaze, and the writing “Esserehumani”. And on the other side of the two twin buildings a portrait of Ernesto Che Guevara.
