The 81st Golden Globe Awards ended with 'Oppenheimer' and 'Poor Things' as the night's big winners. Cillian Murphy won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in the Motion Picture Drama category for 'Oppenheimer', while Emma Stone won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in the Musical/Comedy category for 'Poor Things'. 'Killers of the Flower Moon' picked up its only award of the night with Lily Gladstone triumphing in the Best Actress – Drama category. Although she was the most nominated candidate of the year, 'Barbie' only got two awards.
Universal's $950 million blockbuster 'Oppenheimer' was the big winner at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, winning in five categories: Motion Picture – Drama, Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., and Original Soundtrack. Nolan's three-and-a-half-hour epic about Robert J. Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, was the first film after ending the collaboration with Warner Bros.
Warner Bros, which grossed $1.5 billion with Barbie, entered the Globes with eight nominations: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress – Musical or Comedy (Margot Robbie), Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), Director for Greta Gerwig, Screenplay and three places in the song category. The only song award was given for “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish. Searchlight's 'Poor Things' surpassed the world's most famous doll epic with wins for Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for Emma Stone. Both 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' were nominated in the new “Box Office” category, which 'Barbie' ultimately won.
