Coach Dorival Júnior, current Brazilian Cup champion with São Paulo, will take over as coach of the Brazilian men's football team. Through Twitter, the Tricolor Paulista confirmed the coach's departure, after leaving the club. Dorival will be announced in the coming days by the CBF as the team's new coach, replacing Fernando Diniz, fired last Friday (7).
“It is the realization of a personal dream, which was only possible because I received recognition for the work carried out in São Paulo. That's why I have to thank you for being part of this important period of reconstruction, led with competence by the presidency and the board”, said Dorival, 61 years old, in a statement made this Sunday (7) to the management of Tricolor Paulista.

In addition to his successful spell at São Paulo, with the unprecedented Copa do Brasil title last year, Dorival had already stood out in the 2022 season with Flamengo. The coach revived the Rio club in the middle of the 2022 season, when he took over the team, and ended the year with two titles: Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores. Before, in 2010, he led Santos, full of young players like Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso, to win the Copa do Brasil.
“The invitation made to Dorival is further proof that we are on the right path. In 2021, the CBF had already called Muricy Ramalho, who will remain in São Paulo until the end of my management. Now, it was Dorival's turn, who had a proposal to readjust and extend the contract with São Paulo until the end of my management, in 2026, with all the guarantees for stability. All that remains is to wish you good luck in your new challenge”, said Júlio Casares, president of São Paulo Futebol Clube Julio Casares.
Dorival Júnior will take over the Brazilian team in sixth place in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, based in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the last six matches, under Diniz's command, the team recorded three defeats, one draw and two wins.
Born in Araraquara (SP), Dorival became CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues' favorite to lead the national team, after Italian coach Carlos Ancelotti renewed his contract with Real Madrid (Spain). Since March 2023, Ednaldo Rodrigues had boasted that Ancelotti would be Tite's replacement in charge of the national team, but the dream collapsed on December 29, when the Italian renewed his contract with Real.
