Caroline Sjöblom coached in the USA last season.
Swedish football association (SvFF) published on Wednesday their new organization, where one Finn also plays a significant role. 34 years old Caroline Sjöblom was appointed as the new technical director of the association.
Sjöblom is from Saltvik, Åland, and has been working in the United States earlier this year. In the winter, Sjöblom started working as an assistant coach for the Kansas City Current, which plays in the women’s professional league NWSL. He was named the team’s head coach in April, after the previous head coach Matt Potter was allowed to leave.
Sjöblom coached until the end of the season in Kansas City, but had previously decided to leave the position after that. Now, in his new position at the Swedish Football Association, Sjöblom will act as a former top player, by Kim Källström under. Sjöblom is responsible for the player development of all girls’ age groups and female players. Källström’s title is football manager.
SvFF plans to recruit yet another technical director, who will be responsible for player development tasks on the boys’ and men’s side.
Sjöblom represented Åland United at the highest league level in Finland during his playing career and won the Finnish championship with the team in the 2009 season.
For the 2011 season, Sjöblom moved to Sweden and played a season for Djurgårdens IF until he ended his playing career and became a coach.
Sjöblom first coached AIK’s junior girls and for the 2016 season became the head coach of Tyresö FF’s women’s team. At that time, the team played in the Swedish 2nd division. After the opening season, Sjöblom moved Tyresö up the league ladder and continued as the team’s head coach for the 2017 and 2018 seasons as well. At the same time, he served as the sports director of the representative team.
For the 2019 season, Sjöblom became the head coach of AIK’s women’s team and piloted AIK to the main league at the end of the 2020 season. After that, he moved to the Swedish Football Association for the last time. Sjöblom piloted the Swedish under-19 girls’ national team to European Championship bronze in 2021.
