Ukraine handed over to the United States a list of new weapons the country needs, in which it requested fighter jets, helicopters and missile defense systems. The agency reported this on December 6 Reuters.
“Representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense presented a list of weapons to meet the needs of the Ukrainian defense forces during a closed conference meeting in Washington on Wednesday,” the material states.
According to the agency, the equipment requested by Kiev includes F/A-18 Hornet fighters, C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft, Apache and Black Hawk helicopters and THAAD missile defense systems.
Earlier, on December 6, it became known that the United States allocated a new arms package to Ukraine worth up to $175 million, including HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles, artillery shells, armor-piercing shells, small arms ammunition, demolition ammunition obstacles, critical infrastructure protection equipment, and spare parts and support equipment
At the end of October, the Pentagon reported that the total amount of US military support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during the tenure of American President Joe Biden as president exceeded $44.5 billion, and since the beginning of the Russian special military operation – $43.9 billion.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the backdrop of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022 by Russian leader Vladimir Putin after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, recently in the West there have been increasingly frequent statements about the need to reduce support for Ukraine.
