The standard bearers of the San Javier festive clubs presented, at the gala held this Friday night, the Pirate, Sailor and Peasant 2023 awards, which this year were given to the local crime novel author, Javier Marín, to the businessman and president of the Spanish Motorcycle Federation, José Miguel Martínez and the local company Cárnicas Campillo, respectively.
The gala celebration, which inaugurates the municipal tent and the festival site with a total of 30 peñas, serves to honor the first settlers of the area, farmers and fishermen who were often looted by Berber pirates. The objective of the awards is to recognize the work of outstanding people or institutions in activities related to social, sea and land, in relation to the municipality.
The mayor, José Miguel Luengo, the Festival Councilor, Alba Sánchez and the president of the festival commission, Ricardo Luna were in charge of presenting the awards in this edition of the festival. In addition, Luengo was also in charge, along with the Queen of the Festivities, Nerea Gómez, of cutting the ribbon and inaugurating the tent and the barracks of the clubs that are distributed in the festival venue, and which will remain open until next December 8.
