“Expectations are too high, right? Since I am a world record holder, I consider that I must win that medal for my country. In one way or another, competitors also work hard to achieve that goal. In the end we have to wait to see what the result is, but I’m going for 1,000,” he declared moments before the competition.

Lemos demonstrated his ability in this discipline after competing in the long jump competition in the morning, where he obtained fifth position in the T37/38 category with a result of 5.98.
On this occasion it was the Argentine Lionel Brian Impellizzeri who took first place by obtaining a mark of 6.65. “I feel supremely well thanks to God. Also thanks to the biomedical team that has been working hard. The competition was phenomenal as we have spectacular weather. We have to make the most of each of these spaces that they are giving us,” said Lemos.

This achievement in Santiago 2023 adds to previous successes such as in Tokyo 2020, obtaining the first position on the podium in javelin F38 and long jump T38. This competition It was Lemos’s first Paralympic experience, where he emerged as an outstanding competitor on the international stage..
“I have had strong training from Monday to Friday. We have concentrations in different parts of our country (Colombia) to be able to arrive in optimal conditions in this competition,” said the Para athlete about his physical preparation.
The 32-year-old had already triumphed in the Paranational Games Bolívar 2019. On this occasion, Lemos won two gold medals, in the long jump and shot put, as well as a silver medal in the men’s 100 meters in the T38 category.
Previously Lemos had developed athletics in a conventional way. It was five years ago when he began practicing it in a Paralympic manner when he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
